Getting started
Knowing how or where to start to find mental and behavioral healthcare can feel overwhelming. That’s why we’ve compiled these resources to help you start the conversation.
-
What is behavioral health?
Behavioral Health is a term used for the behaviors and emotions that affect your overall well-being. You may hear this term used for:
- Lifestyle behaviors that impact your health (like exercise, meditation, stress, nutrition, hobbies, sleep, smoking, etc.)
- Mental health conditions (like anxiety, bi-polar disorder and depression)
- Addiction or substance use
Whole health starts with the mind. By focusing on healthy lifestyle behaviors that boost your physical and mental health, you can become healthier from the inside out.
-
Start the conversation with your primary care provider (PCP).
Your PCP knows you best and can help guide you based on any conditions you might have or family history. They’ll help you evaluate what you are feeling, help you screen for behavioral health conditions (like anxiety or depression) and provide care options to consider. Be open and honest when speaking with them. Make a list of questions and symptoms ahead of your visit to get the most out of your appointment.

How do I find a provider?
Therapy can have a positive impact on your mental health. In fact, approximately 75% of those who try it report improvements in their symptoms and quality of life. Therapy can help with both short-term and long-term emotional needs. So, how do you decide which provider is best for you?
Choosing a therapist or counselor is not one-size-fits-all. It can take time to find the right fit.
Focus on your well-being, mind and body
Healthy habits can have a big impact on your mental health. Sometimes simple lifestyle changes – like increased exercise, healthy eating and sleep – can improve your mental and physical health. Your health plan offers wellness support too!
